Welcome to the Power of Ten!

The Concept
The Power of Ten is a NMVMA initiative designed to help recent graduates develop foundational skills in leadership, communication and business.

How It Works
Ten participants will be selected from the applicant pool to participate in the Power of Ten leadership program.  Participants will join a network of peers in a series of learning experiences. It’s a way to help recent graduates answer questions like:

  • “I finished veterinary school and I’m in practice - but how can I get a better grasp on what makes me tick?”

  • “Now that I have a technical staff, how can I form, manage and elad an effective team?”

  • "Who am I in the bigger picture, and what can I give to my family, my community, and my profession that will be my legacy?”

The Power of Ten has created a sense of community and participants have built lasting bonds with other members of the leadership program. The program provides ten recent graduates (graduated from a college of veterinary medicine in the years 2002-2017) with four leadership development sessions over the course of a year. The NMVMA will provide topic experts and meeting expenses, including food and beverages, at no charge to participants.  Sessions will include:

  • Social Styles/Communication/Conflict Management

  • Work/Life Balance
  • Financial Matters/Legislative Issues

  • Goal Setting

 Testimonials

“Power of 10 has been amazing for me! It's given me access to resources on so many things beyond leadership within my company and profession. I have confidence in areas I didn't have before and feel a growing sense of comradery among colleagues. The NMVMA truly cares about every individual in this program and strives to be supportive of every veterinarian. They listen not only to our voices but with arms wide open. They have connected me to a new network and a new foundation. I feel thankful to have been selected to participate and know that I will treasure the experience for years to come! Thank you for all that you do!”

- Lauryn Spohn, DVM

"Power of 10 was a great way for me as a new grad right out of school to connect with veterinarians from all over the state who work in different aspects of the field. I made some great friends, good connections and learned valuable information, ranging from leadership and communication skills, to what the NMVMA does, to tools for practice ownership, and most importantly, ways to maintain a healthy work-life balance and avoid burnout. I would highly recommend P10 to everyone and am so appreciative I had the opportunity to participate in this program."
-Becca Pava, DVM

“I am so grateful to have been a part of NMVMA Power of 10.  It gave me the opportunity to make great connections and learn so many different things about the veterinary field.  I hope to continue to be a part of Power of 10 in the future.“

--Tara Miller, DVM
